Lip Shape Meaning: Mouth Size and Lip Thickness
A Wide Mouth
People with wide mouths are generally kind, cheerful, and tactful. They are often hands-on and can mediate disputes. They are broad-minded and tend to achieve great things later in life. However, an excessively large mouth can create a sense of oppression. The mouth belongs to the lower section of the face, and our chart of the three face sections explains how that section, along with the philtrum, jaw and chin, is tied to fortune after age 51.
A Small Mouth
People with small mouths are kind-hearted and compassionate. They are easygoing and not particularly ambitious. However, they are intelligent, flexible, and persistent, able to act and contribute quietly without expecting anything in return.

Thin Lips
People with thin lips are quick-witted, resourceful, and intelligent. They are pragmatic, adaptable, and often able to draw inferences from one instance to another. They are straightforward, argumentative, and somewhat selfish. They are not very affectionate or enthusiastic, but they tend to live a positive life.
Thick Lips
People with thick lips are down-to-earth and kind. They are not very good at expressing themselves, but they are warm-hearted and humane. They know how to give back and are optimistic and content. However, sometimes they lose their rational judgment because they are too concerned about saving face.
What Lip Balance, Shape and Lines Mean
Even Upper and Lower Lips
People with equal upper and lower lips (whose lips are usually closed and form a horizontal line) tend to be law-abiding, conscientious in their dealings with others, value strength and principles, and are somewhat conservative and inflexible.
Round, Pouty Lips
People with round, pouty lips are simple-minded, have relatively little fortune in life, often feel anxious and worried, and are somewhat timid and fearful. They are less successful in their later years, so they need to work harder in middle age.
Crooked Lips
People with crooked lips tend to have a somewhat biased personality, are argumentative, and often contradict themselves in their words and actions. They have a strong sense of self, a bad temper, and because they are extremely independent, they are less likely to listen to criticism and suggestions from others.
Wrinkles Around the Lips
People with many wrinkles around their lips are mostly older. If wrinkles appear around the mouth during youth or middle age, it indicates a life of hardship, with constant toil and busyness. Even in old age, they may experience loneliness and unease.

What Do the Corners of Your Mouth Mean?
Upturned Mouth Corners
A mouth with slightly upturned corners (called a “bow-shaped mouth” in physiognomy) indicates intelligence, talent, rich emotions, and a strong drive for self-improvement. Such a person is capable of handling heavy responsibilities, is not prone to holding grudges, and earns the trust of friends. If the lips are bright red and rosy, it further signifies a prosperous later life. Face reading ties later life mainly to the lower face, and our guide to what your chin and jaw say explains why proportion matters more than a pointed or square shape.
Downturned Mouth Corners
Downturned corners of the mouth (called “overturned boat mouth” in physiognomy) indicate a proud and slightly stubborn person who acts with a strong attitude and does not easily compromise. However, they are also straightforward and sometimes too principled, but they can also endure hardship and are brave enough to face challenges and difficulties.
Downward Lines Beside the Mouth
People with downward-pointing lines on both sides of their mouth have longevity lines, but they tend to be aloof, have a strong sense of right and wrong, and are somewhat stubborn and critical. They are not very flexible and can sometimes seem unapproachable, often experiencing loneliness in their later years. They should also be wary of stomach problems.

Thin, Protruding and Parted Lips
Thin Lips With a Pointed, Drooping Nose
People with thin upper and lower lips and a pointed, drooping nose tend to be sharp-tongued, prone to stirring up trouble, and easily hurtful with their words without realizing it. They are also somewhat cold and aloof, often getting into unnecessary trouble. As the saying goes, “too much talk leads to mistakes,” and they will lead a life of toil.
A Protruding Upper Lip
An upturned, protruding upper lip, commonly known as a “fire-blowing mouth,” indicates a person who enjoys arguing but often lacks eloquence, easily leading to verbal disputes. They are also petty and unwilling to suffer losses. While quick-witted, they have many opinions, yet they are also generally proactive in pursuing their ideals.
A Protruding Lower Lip
People with protruding lower lips tend to be aloof, suspicious, and sensitive. They lack affability, are prone to arguments, and have a selfish streak. They need to strengthen their interpersonal relationships.
Protruding Upper and Lower Lips
People with protruding upper and lower lips tend to be opportunistic, materialistic, overly straightforward, willful, stubborn, and self-righteous. They often offend others unintentionally and sometimes lack consideration for relationships, making it difficult for them to maintain long-term relationships.
Lips That Don’t Fully Close
People whose lips are usually not closed tightly (commonly known as showing teeth) tend to be impatient and impulsive, have weak fortune, and often miss good opportunities. In their later years, when their mouths are in a period of bad luck, they will fall into difficulties and find it hard to accumulate wealth due to excessive loss of energy.
